Endodontics

Endodontics refers to procedures that affect and treat the interior of the tooth, the packet of tissue and nerves known as the pulp. Treating the pulp is sometimes necessary in order to prevent extreme decay and resulting tooth loss.

Sometimes, a deep cavity, or one that goes untreated, will penetrate the interior of the tooth and affect the pulp. When the pulp becomes infected, it can be very painful, in addition to compromising the integrity of the tooth itself. In these cases, a root canal is recommended.

The words “root canal” can be intimidating, but the procedure is straightforward: the dentist drills into the tooth, removes the infected pulp, and disinfects the tooth's interior. The tooth is then filled, and a crown is sometimes recommended in order to preserve its overall integrity.

Modern advances mean having a root canal is as manageable as a filling, and you can always count on your team at Coastline Dental to give you our best in compassionate and efficient care.
